Why you'll love this wine

The Deep Woods Single Vineyard Chardonnay is one of the most sought-after Chardonnay wines in Margaret River. Produced in extremely limited quantities from a small, single vineyard in Karridale, this well-known wine usually sells out within a few months of release.

Bursting with juicy citrus, savoury fennel and rich, decadent pie crust this is a Margaret River Chardonnay that you are unlikely to forget.

Tasting Notes

Light and bright straw

aroma

Fresh lime, brine and coriander seed lead the nose with subtle brioche and amaretto notes.

palate

Chalk box textures, very fine-boned and pure. The length and acid line are endless. The palate finishes with a salt, grapefruit and subtle warming oak influence.

cellaring

Best enjoyed on release or within the next 5 years.

Technical

vintage

2023 was an effortless vintage in Margaret River – not too hot, not too cold, everything was just right. The season started beautifully with a wet spring and late flowering, followed by a warm and dry season, producing wines with refined flavour, elegance and real personality.

Crucially, the Chardonnay ripened relatively slowly with great fruit weight, ripe stone fruit characters and of course a dash of Deep Woods Estate’s flint and funk on the nose! The picking window for Chardonnay was tight, with the majority of our best vineyards picked within a two-week time frame.

winemaking

Margaret River and the Karridale sub region in particular enjoyed a long slow ripening period which promoted varietal definition and character. This block in particular is one of the last of our Chardonnay vineyards to be picked and can be identified by its purity of fruit and long clean acid core. The fruit was hand-picked and gently whole bunch pressed to a selection of small and large format French oak. Wild fermentation was engaged with careful temperature control to retain freshness and to capture the delicate nuances the wine provides.
