Why you'll love this wine
With a Trophy for Best Chardonnay at the Royal Hobart Wine Show 2021 and 9 Gold Medals, the 2019 Redbrook Reserve Chardonnay was released to high acclaim with 95 points in the Halliday Wine Companion 2023. West Australian wine writer Ray Jordan also awarded the 2019 Redbrook Reserve Chardonnay 96 points and wrote:
"Oh wow. There is almost a pretty delicacy about this excellent Chardonnay at first then the awesome power kicks in and starts its relentless drive to that super long finish. Has a crunchy juicy mid palate with fine chalky acidity and a fine citrus tang balancing the complex savoury notes. Finishes dry and long."
Senior Winemaker Matt Byrne believes this is one of Margaret River's most premium Chardonnay offerings. He said: "It will very slowly develop more subtle complexities and character for years to come while ensuring fruit and hence regional character is the focal point of the Redbrook Reserve style." The palate is seamless, refreshing and tight with ever-lingering flavour that is a highlight of a great 2019 Margaret River vintage.
Tasting Notes
winemaker's note
This wine achieves the difficult balance of providing a wonderfully complex Chardonnay drinking experience without sacrificing fruit freshness and vitality. As a result, this expertly made wine will be just as rewarding to lay down as its red counterparts. It will very slowly develop more subtle complexities and character for years to come while ensuring fruit and hence regional character is the focal point of the Redbrook Reserve style.
Senior Winemaker, Matt Byrne
colour
Light straw with a vibrant green rim. Incredible youthful condition for its vintage.
aroma
The wine shows malt, fresh toast and struck match complexity from wild barrel fermentation.
palate
The palate is seamless, refreshing and tight with ever-lingering flavour that is a highlight of a great 2019 Margaret River vintage.
cellaring
Although beautiful now, this wine will continue to develop complexity for at least 10 years from vintage.
Technical
vintage
2019 was a beautiful vintage in Margaret River. A steady, mild season allowed for slow, measured flavour development that resulted in balanced natural acidity and lifted varietal fruit character, resulting in wines with incredible perfume, true elegance and real personality.
winemaking
At perfect ripeness, the fruit was hand-picked in the early hours of the morning. With 100% wild yeast fermentation, the gently pressed juice was stirred every six weeks on full solids before 10 months on yeast lees in tank. No malolactic fermentation occurred.
The wine was the aged in a combination of 90% one-year-old and 10% new oak barrels before being left for maturation in bottle for a year.

2023 Ray Jordan Wine Guide

96halliday wine companion 2023
Fermented and matured 10 months in French oak (18% new), followed by a further 8 months on lees in tank, prior to a year in bottle. Fresh and powerful, with a distinct linearity, thanks to the cool 2019 vintage. This is so taut and coiled right now as to be almost closed. It won't remain that way forever, but in the meantime, a decant is advised.
95James Suckling 2023
A flinty nose of baked lemons, grapefruit, white peaches and sweet herbs. Medium-bodied with subtle saline, mineral notes articulating the crisp citrus and apple fruit on the palate. Succulent.
